As per several user reports, Cortana might not be able to connect to the internet because your Microsoft account is no longer verified. This typically happens in those instances where the user uses a two-step authentication system with their Microsoft account. Creative Cloud works fine and I was able to update LR from there. That made no difference. I switched the firewall on and off, which made no difference. I uninstalled the firewall alltogether and that made no difference. When I try to authorize Flickr, I also get a message saying I should check my internet connection.
